Steti Mini Coronation Crown, Royal Crown of France, the so-called “ Crown of Charlemagne”

The crown was the most precious item in the Treasury of the Royal Abbey of Saint-Denis.Baron Pinoteau has advanced the theory, brilliantly argued, that this crown had been made for Philippe II Auguste at the same time as another crown, similar in shape and decoration but with smaller gems and a shorter coif, intended for the queen. Pinoteau suggests that it is these two crowns that appear on the 1534 inventory of Saint- Denis as the coronation crowns of the kings and queens of France.
